Sena 60S: Game-Changing IPX7 & Magnetic Mount

Bluetooth communications for motorcyclists is getting very interesting. Today, we’re diving into the brand-new Sena 60S Bluetooth communicator—Sena’s top-of-the-line unit.
This article is based on the video by Cruiseman’s Garage.
If you’re already a Sena user, you’ll feel right at home. They didn’t change the interface just for the sake of change, and that’s a good thing.
Sena's top-of-the-line Mesh and Bluetooth communicator comes with dual helmet kits, an integrated flashlight, Harman Kardon sound and WAVE Intercom with unlimited range over cellular.
- Mesh and Wave intercom (unlimited range with cellular signal)
- Harman Kardon 40mm speakers
- Long battery life (17–22 hours)
- Mesh only connects with other Sena units
- Not fully waterproof
What’s in the Box?
When you unbox the Sena 60S, you get a surprising amount of gear:
- The communicator itself
- Three extra faceplates and jog dials (black, silver, and black chrome)
- Velcro pads for mounting speakers and microphones
- Clamp-style magnetic mounts with built-in and wired boom mics
- A small mic for full-face helmets
- Adhesive mount and extra adhesive strips
- An earbud adapter
- Two sets of Harman Kardon HD speakers with spacers

Whether you use a modular, full-face, or three-quarter helmet, this kit has you covered.
Design and Ergonomics
The 60S is slightly more compact than the 50S. It includes:
- The familiar Sena jog dial with center button
- A mesh button on the side
- A smaller rear button
- A new decorative LED whose color you can customize in the app

There’s even a utility flashlight, useful if you drop your keys at night—though let’s be honest, you’ll probably forget it’s there.
USB-C charging is fast—fully charged in 1 to 1.5 hours. The USB-C port is sealed with a rubber flap, because now the 60S is IPX7 waterproof. That’s a big deal. Previously, many riders chose Cardo over Sena due to waterproofing.
Another favorite feature? The new magnetic mounting system. It’s intuitive, secure, and super easy to use.

Customization
Want to match your helmet? The 60S includes interchangeable faceplates and jog dials. Pop them on and off easily. For some, this is a cool bonus. For others, it’s a gimmick. Either way, it’s included.
Communication Capabilities
The 60S includes:
- Bluetooth 5.3
- Mesh 3.0
- Future support for Wave technology
Mesh 3.0 offers stronger, clearer communication—but only with other 3.0 devices. You can toggle to Mesh 2.0 in the app for backwards compatibility.
Sena says firmware updates are coming to the 50S, 50R, and Impulse helmet to upgrade them to 3.0.
They’ve also increased volume by 8dB: 4dB from the new speakers, 4dB from firmware. The 50S can gain the firmware boost too.
Mesh and Wave Explained
Open Mesh lets you instantly connect with nearby riders on the same channel (1 through 6). Group Mesh allows private chats with up to 24 participants.

Wave technology is coming soon. It’ll use voice-over-IP to eliminate range limits. If your communicator can connect to a phone with cell data, you can join a Wave group through the Wave app. Even across states. It sounds revolutionary.
Pairing with Devices
If you ride a Goldwing (like me) or any bike with Apple CarPlay, the Sena pairs as a “mobile phone”. Works the same for Harley, BMW, Indian, and Africa Twin riders.
Don’t have CarPlay? Pair it directly to your smartphone to make calls or play music.
You can also pair to a GPS device. Sena’s multitasking will mute music when GPS instructions come in, and raise the volume again when they’re done. It’s elegant, works perfectly, and it’s the same as what the 50S offers.
Bluetooth vs. Mesh
If you’re riding two-up, Bluetooth Intercom works great and saves battery. Mesh is better for group rides where range matters.
Just flip up the antenna, press the mesh button, and you’ll hear “Mesh On”. You’ll get audio prompts for what mode you’re in. Simple and intuitive.

Final Thoughts
What do I think overall?
Some features are game changers. Others feel a bit gimmicky:
- Interchangeable faceplates? Cool, but not essential.
- Flashlight? Handy maybe, but probably forgotten.
- Decorative LED? Looks nice, but I’ll never see it on my own helmet.
But waterproofing? Huge.
I’ve ridden tens of thousands of miles with the 50S in rain, fog, and all kinds of weather and never had it fail. But the peace of mind of an IPX7 rating is valuable.
Best Feature: Magnetic Mount
This mount is a major improvement. Just bring it close and it snaps on. USB-C connector built in. No fiddling. Easy on, easy off.
True Value: Dual Helmet Mounts
The 60S includes two full helmet mount kits. That means two helmets, one communicator. Even the dual pack comes with four mounts and four speaker sets.
If you own multiple helmets, this is huge. You don’t have to buy multiple units.
Noise Cancellation & Charging
Sena says the 60S has AI-powered noise cancellation. I haven’t tested it enough to say for sure, but if it’s better than the 50S, that’s a win.
Fully charges in 1.5 hours. When you power it on, it announces your battery level. No guessing. Unlike the 50S, where you’re only warned once it’s already low.
Bonus: The User Guide
The Sena 60S user guide is fantastic. Clear, easy to follow, and well-written. It makes setup and troubleshooting painless.
Final Verdict
The Sena 60S is a worthy upgrade. It’s not just about the fancy stuff—it’s the thoughtful changes like waterproofing, magnetic mounts, dual helmet support, and volume boosts that really make it shine.
Let me know in the comments what else you want to know about this communicator. From what I’ve seen so far, the 60S pairs great with my Goldwing and works exactly as promised.
